Turning Pro?

Well, I did it. I finally completed all my coursework at the New York Institute of Photography. You know they give you 3 years. And I completed it almost 3 years to the day. [Yay!]
It’s not like I was lazy or anything. I was plenty busy with freelance work and family and personal responsibilities. But during the time I was taking the course I ventured into professional photography. I took gigs photographing commercial real estate properties. I also worked for about a year for a popular publishing company as a photo-retoucher. I had access to their (5) professional photo studios and, for a year gleaned off the experiences of professional studio photographers. It was worth it to put off the classwork stuff in order to get that experience.
But I’ve always had the bug in me to do my own stuff. So now, I am continuing along as a freelancer, getting gigs here and there. I’m feeling pretty confident now that I’ve finished my course (just waiting for that certificate!). Now it’s time to hit the pavement. Let’s see where this thing brings me.
So I figured, maybe it would be good to document this turning point in my life (maybe not). Anyway, I figured since everyone seems to have a blog, why not me? So here’s mine. I intend to use it mostly as a portfolio of my work. So I’ll be referring many people here (yup, that’s probably how you got here). Please look around as this blog develops. Leave comments on my work. Tell me what you think and what I can do to improve. I hope to have a category that gives back as well. I’m not sure what that means yet . . . Maybe I’ll share my knowledge (whatever that’s worth) and tips that I learn along the way.
Anyway, thanks for dropping in. I’ll try to keep the place tidy and up to date. If you, however, want to contribute to this blog, please let me know. You know how to reach me!
